Forgot my MacBook Password but am currently logged in, what are my options?

So I set up a new password in the system preferences under touch id and password. I wrote it down just in case and moved on. A few minutes later I want to start a program which requires me to enter my mac password upon starting it and no matter how many times and in which variation I tried entering it, it's always incorrect.
