AITAH for confronting my son’s girlfriend after she made a rude comment about my daughter’s eating habits?

YTA- if you know your daughter is athletic and could eat more food, that sounds like your daughter was just being overly sensitive. Not saying it wasn't a big deal to your daughter, but it seems like she needed a talk more than the girlfriend.

Honestly, I agree a bit. I think my daughter has been developing some body issues especially since she’s started caring more about her image and wearing short dresses, bikinis, etc. She’s been a lot more conscious about what she’s been eating and wearing and wanted to start running as well but her ballet teacher nipped that in the bud saying she’ll overexert herself. It’s a difficult time for a teenage girl and I think this was the straw that broke the camel’s back. The chat I had with her was long needed and some people have told me I am overreacting, but I spoke to her about body image in general and asked if anything was going on, if she’d like to speak to a counsellor or therapist. She was quiet mostly and listening to me throughout, but she told me she’s okay and if she thinks she needs help, she’ll come to me. I’m going to keep an eye on her but I’m hoping she’ll be fine. Hey— I already commented before but you did good defending your daughter. I really think you should show your son this post and the comments so he can realize how much he fucked up. He should’ve defended and protected his baby sister and he didn’t. He failed her, and now he’s shunning and punishing her for what? Being upset that his girlfriend essentially called her fat?

Hello, thank you so much :) appreciate that, I’m just trying to do what I can. Husband and I haven’t been able to get him alone yet to speak to him but we will this evening for sure. Like I said I don’t want to jeopardise his relationship, and I want to give the girlfriend a second chance, so I’m going to make sure he has a conversation with her to clear the air. I agree, the more concerning matter is how he reacted. I know yelling at him is only going to push him away but I am disappointed and I will let him know that. If it turns out that the girlfriend didn’t truly mean anything malicious, whatever issues in his relationship will technically be my fault so it’s really unfair he’s taking it out on his sister and I’m going to point that out. He’s not a bad kid, he does love his sister. This behavior is odd for him so I’m hoping it’s just because of puppy love.
