Looks great but you can never maintain duckweed once’s it’s in you have it for life. I recommend frogbit instead it’s just a slightly bigger version of duck weed.

I appreciate it, I’ll probably just end up moving the heater with the carbon. Do you have any recommendations on how to route the pump out the built-in outlet hole? It’s thread-less, has an inside diameter of ~8.5mm, and sticks out into the tank.

I personally will go all sponge with coarse, medium, fine in that order. I run planted tanks so carbon is not needed. But really there is no wrong way. Check out any 3 tray canister filters and copy them and that should do it. The only concern I have is your pump placement, AIO tank usually comes with a hose and an elbow so the pump won't run dry if something would have happened.

Got it, thanks. Honestly, there probably was some kind of addition to prevent the pump from drying out, but the tank was missing a lot of things that I remember it having when I first got it (I literally had to diy an acrylic lid with a scroll saw). My main concern right now is trying to figure out how to route the return pump to still come out of the built-in outlet hole, since it had just been sitting in place held up by the the rubber tip of the heater.
