Historical children series about horses

In elementary school (early/mid 2010s) I read a series about a girl and horses set in the past. I think I remember the setting gave me Little House on the Prairie vibes? I'm pretty sure she lived somewhere rural and had a very tough life. Not much info to go on, but I'm greatful for any ideas.
