Series of biographies of famous people for children (could have been chapter books) first read them in the early 1980s

When I was a child, the library had a series of biographies of famous people (think presidents and for some reason, Betsy Ross comes to mind when I think of these books) so I’m not sure if the series was only famous historical Americans or not.

There were quite a few of them, and I had not finished the series when the library moved and they were discarded, so my assumption is that they weren’t newly published.

I believe they were illustrated and that they had orange/peach covers, but that could have been a library binding.

I have never come across them in the years since. Any ideas?
