Do SUVs just drive “heavy”?

I'm test driving new cars and drove Mazda CX-5 and CX-50 two cars which everyone seems to rave about it. It felt live driving a tank (ok maybe an exaggeration). Getting back in my 2009 Pontiac Vibe felt surprisingly good after.
