how to improve vocab for english?

yo im trying to improve my vocabulary so i can make my essays sound more sophisticated (while still making sense ofc) and so i dont need to repeat the same words over and over again. what's the best way to do so? i was looking at some websites online for learning new words everyday but most of them require u to pay so can someone lmk if they have a good website for this or other technique they used.
