After seeing the design changes to newer ThinkPads, I have decided to convert over to the dark side. It was nice knowing you ThinkPad fam!
This was not an easy decision to make, but I went ahead and decided to pull the trigger on a new 14” MBP M4 to replace my aging T420. I started to see the writing on the wall back in 2012 when Lenovo introduced the T430 that at some point they were going to completely transform the ThinkPad into a “MacPad”. The recent introduction of the X9 has further cemented my suspicion that Lenovo will eventually turn the ThinkPad into nothing more than a MacBook clone.
I held on to my T420 for as long as I could, but alas it is becoming too slow for even basic multitasking in 2025 (even with upgrades) that I decided to finally retire it and get a modern laptop. I was considering a new T14, but the MBP’s insane battery life and amazing screen won me over to the dark side. So long ThinkPad fam! It was a good run while it lasted!
