Router/Modem Question

Greetings Reader, so I’ve been having issues connecting my VR headset to my PC and think I have it narrowed down to a Wi-Fi Modem/Router issue.

I UNFORTUNATELY still have DSL as AT&T Fiber does not serve my rural location, I have the 50down/10up internet package but see download speeds around 4mb/s almost exclusively.

My question is, if I upgrade to an external router (Nighthawk AX5400) with Wi-Fi 6 capability and use my current AT&T provided modem/router as a bridge will my download speeds increase to close to what I’m actually paying for or will i still be stuck with the same snail pace of 4mb/s

P.S.

I know the router is overkill for what speeds I have (I’ve had fiber most of my life) but I’m thinking I go this route cause it’ll work for what I have currently and then when I relocate to a new home (preferably with Fiber Internet) that I’ll be able to utilize it there as well.
