Should I buy a automatic next time?
I’ve been driving stick for my entire life and have seeing the fall of the stick shift. It used to be a good thing without question because the stick shift was simple, reliable, cheaper and more common.
But nowadays, automatics seem far better. It's really a night and day difference compared to the slow automatic transmissions of the 2000s. Modern automatics have more gears, faster acceleration, and are easier to find at a reasonable price (though I'm unsure about their reliability, I guess at least they should last for 100k miles lol)
The more annoying thing now with modern manuals is that due to emission regulations, they often have 'rev hang' issue especially in 1st and 2nd gear. The electronic throttle delay also feels sluggish while rev matching.
In the past I had no choice I can only afford car that under $10k and stick shifts were definitely the better option in that price range. But now life has improved and I can afford cars up to around $40k. At that price point automatics seem much better, is it worth to just buy automatic next time? I have never owned a modern automatic, so I don't know how it actually feels for daily driving
