White smoke coming from brand new Briggs & Stratton mower engine

The engine is a Briggs 450E engine. I bought the mower brand new a couple weeks ago and filled the oil to the correct level, definitely not overfilled. When I go to start it up after pushing the primer bulb 3 times, there's white smoke coming out the muffler. Once it's been running for a bit, it starts up just fine without any smoke. It seems to only happen after priming. So I checked the air filter. The bottom of the air filter is soaked in oil, but otherwise seems clean. Also the bottom of the air filter housing has quite a bit of oil on it. Something else I noticed is when I pressed the primer bulb with the air filter removed, there was some white smoke coming out of the hole behind where the air filter sits (leading to the carb). Any ideas on what could be causing this?
