Please help! Need help with value /what to do with fathers watch.

Hi everyone,

This is my late father’s watch. My mother says that my father purchased this watch sometime around the late 1960s or very early 1970s in Japan when he was stationed for the Vietnam war. The watch was authentic and my mother and father used to take it to Mayors to get it serviced. My father passed away in 1984 and my mother passed this watch down to me.

As you can see it’s in ROUGH shape. I did have pics of the serial number inside the case but I can’t seem to find them and right now the watch is away in storage.

I’ve been having trouble assessing value to this watch as I’ve seen vintage GMT’s sell for thousands and thousands up to a few thousand (in line with current gmt prices)

I know the watch is in rough shape but have been told by a few jewelry shops to leave all the original parts as intact as possible.

The problem is, I can’t seem to get concrete advice/value on the watch. Part of me would like to sell it as I don’t have the money to service the watch or restore it the quotes I got for this service a few years ago are almost the cost of an entry level Swiss watch (such as Tag or others) and also I’ve understood sending this to Rolex for service and such would mean they’d keep all the original parts thus restoring this watch to modern day standards and it could devalue the watch.

I don’t know what to do and don’t know how much this could be worth if anything. It is an original from the late 1960s so I need to get some sort of projection of value.

Thanks in advance!!
