Advice on the best technique
I'm creating a custom box for a friend to keep her mother's ashes so I'm obviously trying to get everything as perfect as possible. I 3D printed the box and I created a 3D printed Hueforge painting for the top. I created a little recess for it to fit and I want to coat the top in resin.
I did one lid and it was actually going pretty well until I took the tape off and there was a little bit of leaking onto the sides and the edges were rough because I guess I should have taken the tape off sooner.
To remedy this I attempted to do a pour to coat the sides to hide my crimes and I got a lot of drippage that hardened and is hanging from the underside of the lid and when I did the pour it didn't run down and coat the sides like I had hoped. I knew I was going to start over so I just yolo'd this attempt to coat the as an experiment. I haphazardly used a sponge brush to coat and it came out uneven and textured which was to be expected. I also wanted to see what would happen if I pour resin just along the rim when I already had several coats on top and it created dips.
I attached some pictures. Ignore the resin on the very inside of the lid. That was from me being inexperienced and unprepared. I had gotten resin on the surface of the item I used to elevate it. The inside is being covered so I wasn't too worried but the drips on the underside were unexpected. I guess if I had taped it I probably would have been fine?
Tldr: how should I approach coating the lid as clean and even as possible?
Thanks!
