What's going on with remote jobs?

I have a couple of friends who work corp and their companies are going back to 5 days office work.

I also saw a thread on r/digitalnomad where all of them were complaining about it but I couldn't find anyone really explaining the reason.

It seems a lot of companies have decided on this nearly simultaneously. What is going on?
