Was Cher the first female Pop Star?

In this day and age and really for the last 40 or so years, female pop stars have come and gone. Madonna, Brittney, Lady Gaga, Christine Aguilera, the list goes on...my question is...Was Cher the first original female pop super star? If one could trace the lineage of the female pop star back in history, would all lines lead directly to Cher? Who else would even be considered? Diana Ross?
