Reduce hot tub heating costs and retain hot water with a waterfall hot tub

When my hot tub is in spa mode the waterfall stops but when it goes into filter mode the hot water spillls into the pool. What’s the best way to retain the heat of the water and reduce costs. Just bought the house so heating up the water from 55 to 102 right now
