Pros and cons of Plano

My husband and I are considering moving with our 4 kids, ages 16, 11, 9, and 6 to Plano. We are wanting to be near an interstate, with low crime, lots to do, outdoor activities, conservative mindset, and really good schools. We are currently from Alexandria, LA which literally ranks nearly dead last on every metric just to give you a baseline of what we are coming from. I've seen some posts about Plano previously but looking for an updated, fresh take on how the area is now. Also, what are the people like? Are there lots of families with children who like to socialize? Are people down to Earth and not just all about materialism? Is it easy to acclimate and make friends for both adults and kids?
