With the Final Fantasy set coming out later this year, what game would you recommend someone play who knows nothing about it?

I've been an avid video gamer my entire life, yet somehow I've never played these games. I know many people who love these games are incredibly excited for the new set, but I have absolutely no interest in it currently. So, my question is: what game can I play to experience this series and build some excitement for the upcoming cards?
