Can 1/8 acrylic be cut in one pass?

Hi! I'm still quite new to laser cutting and have been playing around with different settings on my 40w CO2 omtech laser. At the moment, I've found cutting most 1/8th sheets at 8mm/s at 40% in two passes has done the trick. Is there a more efficient setting to cut acrylic in a single pass (without burning the crap out of the edges) or is two passes pretty normal? I appreciate the help and insight!
