Expired Japanese Passport - Dual Citizen

Hey guys,

I just wanted to ask a question regarding the grey zone of dual citizenships. I have both Malaysian and Japanese passports. I’ve always used my Japanese passport anytime I went into Japan.

I just turned 21, and realised that I won’t be allowed to hold both passports anymore. Unfortunately, I have been in the EU for the past 2 years and have not had the chance to renew my Japanese passport which lead to it expiring last week.

I usually renew it in Kuala Lumpur, and the authority is the embassy there, but now that I’m in the EU, is there any hope of renewing it?

I know people just tend to secretly renew it without admitting to the other nationality, but since my passport is expired, are there any tips on how I can renew my passport without any issues?

Just curious if anyone has been in my situation before. If not possible, then I have no issues with it. Fingers crossed for any changes in the near future 🫡
