Noise sensitive dog on hikes?

Anyone hike with their sensitive dog? Sometimes I run into this on hikes with my sweet girl. My dog will hear something crash through the brush and randomly, it will scare the crap out of her. Or she gets a whiff of something in a strong wind, or sniffs something she is uncertain about on the ground at the trailhead, and we can’t continue to even start the hike.

I think it’s at least partially her breed genetics (herding breed).

I haven’t really found a way to increase her confidence, except for hiking with a confident dog or with my male partner (her dad). I try to project calm leadership on our hikes, but she still struggles sometimes.

It definitely seems tied to the weather and is worse in winter months.

Anyone relate? I’m at a dead end trying to figure out strategies to put her at ease when she’s feeling this way.
