Thank you <3
My wife and I are getting a second hamster. We've had 4 in total over the last 5 years, and this will be our 5th. I've made preparations, and have taken cage size, bedding depth, hiding places, things to do, etc into great consideration. We overspent on bedding which my wife questioned profusely. I kept telling her it's what is required, and it would be cruel not to give our new hamster enough room to dig, play, as well as be comfortable and happy. I literally had to sit her down and show her numerous posts I had bookmarked to help her understand what I was getting at.
In the past, we made some major mistakes with cages sizing and whatnot, and we have learnt a lot from our experieces. Despite learning, I think it can be very easy to underestimate how much space a hamster actually needs to live a happy, fulfilling life. I think this is the thing my wife couldn't get her head around, and thanks to people that make helpful posts, give useful advice, and share uesful information, she was able to understand this.
We will continue to grow as owners moving forward, and I look forward to my continued research and interactions on r/hamsters.
Thank you. <3
