Need advise for the area.

Hi all,

I just accepted a job offer and I will be moving into the area within the next few months. I am moving from Orlando so its not going to be incredibly far but the issue is that I know absolutely nothing about the area. I was hoping reddit could help me with that!

Is there anything I need to know? Any areas I might want to avoid? Anything I cant think about at the moment but its definitely important?

Edit1: I will be stationed near the Fort Lauderdale Executive Airport so I was hoping for something near the area. I was looking into renting for now, and it doesn't matter what it is but a fenced in backyard would be awesome. Its just going to be just me and my 2 small dogs, so a 1 bedroom would suffice but 2 bedroom might be better if its in the budget. I am 32 (only mentioning this because I saw a lot of 55+ communities). Budget... I really don't want to spend more than 2k on rent.
