eBay blames me for Canadian postal strike

I sold an item to a buyer in Ontario some weeks ago, and it was shipped to the eBay international hub; it was successfully logged as received (tracking number) and sent on its way to Canada by Asendia. Meanwhile, Canadian postal workers went on strike.

The buyer and I were messaging at about week 5. He was really cool about it - he understood why there was a delay, and knew it had nothing to do with me. Two weeks later he opened a case. Great.

I started to stress: what if eBay found some skeevy way to screw me out of my money? I ran to Reddit (as you do) and was soothed by post upon post describing the same scenario. Armed with newfound information, I was confident that eBay would refund the buyer out of their own pocket. I wouldn't be dinged! Even though they had put some of my money on hold, I wasn't worried about it.

Yesterday eBay closed the case in favor of the buyer, but they took the money from my account. What the frick?! Are they joking? How is it the seller's fault when the shipping hub received the item? The tracking number doesn't lie. Is eBay really this evil? Worst case Ontario, I'm out forty bucks, but it seems unreal that a company could be so incredibly shitty.
