What JS Bach keyboard works would you recommend for someone who historically dislikes his music?
I play piano and Bach is of course a staple in piano rep. However, since childhood, the music has never been of interest for me. I was always drawn to the works of Scriabin, Debussy and Ravel due to the texture of their writing (extended harmony, melodies and polyrhythms). I fully understand his impact on music but his output simply does not appeal to my ear.
Since I've gotten older, I feel like I missed a step in my pianistic development by not playing Bach. I'm not motivated to learn Prelude and Fugues because the music does not grab my ear like Ravel and Scriabin. Are there any other keyboard works that should try or am I forcing myself to like something here?
