honestly, I don't care if I'm a "reddit atheist"
Yes, I have a lot of anger towards religion and I don't believe it is unjustified. What else in society is given such an overwhelming degree of senseless legitimacy?
- In America, half our government is made up of full-grown adults who use archaic mythology with zero proof behind it to shove their oppressive worldviews down our throats. Not to mention the countries that in 2023 are still full-on theocracies
- Christianity and Islam, at the very least, are misogynistic and homophobic at their core
- the central message of most religions is unquestioning deference to authority, which is a SCARY thing to promote
- also, it's alarming to realize that most religious people genuinely believe that people who don't think like them actually deserve to burn in hell and be literally tortured for all eternity because they don't worship an invisible sky man.
- Christianity is a literal death cult, traumatizing children by telling them they are responsible for the death of a random man 2000 years ago, in full gruesome detail
- religion makes people lose sight of what really matters in our lives on earth because they're so busy chasing a bullshit fairy tale
- not to mention the religious people that believe absolute fucking nonsense because "it's in the bible"-- i had an (ex-)friend who literally said she didn't believe in evolution bc it's not in the bible. This girl was studying ENGINEERING
- Growing up in Catholicism and suffering from severe OCD I have been instilled with a fear of going to hell that will never leave me probably ever, regardless of how little I believe in it now
So, regardless of the comments I get on these points of "shut up edgelord" and accusations of being a "fundamentalist" (which is obviously nonsense because atheism is not a religion...) I still hate all of these things about religion, specifically Christianity and Islam, and it is infuriating that people think these are beyond criticism.
