I hate insurance.
Omfg.
I have a new insurance plan.
They denied my Zolmitriptan migraine med that I’ve taken for the last year. The pharmacy told me that the insurance suggested I try, “sumatriptan nasal spray” first. And that Zolmitriptan would be billed as a name brand drug—$75 copay. Okay, I’ve never tried Sumatriptan nasal spray so sure, why not?
Okay… cool. I messaged my doctor and said, “hey can you change my medication to Sumatriptan nasal spray? The insurance will apparently cover it but not Zolmitriptan.”
So my neurologist sends over a new Rx for Sumatriptan nasal spray.
I get a call from the pharmacy. The insurance denied the sumatriptan nasal spray. The pharmacy says insurance is suggesting I try Zolmitriptan first. ☹️🥺
I JUST F*ING CANT WIN!!! So now my doctor has to do a prior Auth which they’ll likely sit on or avoid all together.
Meanwhile I have no acute migraine treatment. 👌
