Henry VIII dies during the sweating sickness outbreak of 1528. Now what?
Based on another counterfactual post on here, but going in the opposite direction. What would’ve happened had Henry VIII caught the sweating sickness and died during the outbreak of 1528? The heir presumptive was Mary, but no woman had ever ruled England in her own right before, let alone a prepubescent girl. Would people accept her? Henry did have an illegitimate son at the time. What percentage of people might prefer him on the throne? And who would be regent during Mary’s minority? Could they fight off any succession crises that might follow? And how delayed might the English reformation be, if it happened at all? I have a lot of other questions about this scenario but those are the main ones right now
