What % Of Your Account Do You Keep Cash?
I am 24 years old. I own my own home and have a full-time job. I'm married with three children, sole income. With that being said, I am not a new investor, but I AM a new trader. I have been investing in ROTH, Traditional IRA, and 401K through work for 2 years, and have a little over $20k in with a big employer match check coming in March.
With that being said, I also have been trading for the last several months on RH as a way to learn more about the market and hopefully make some money. I had the initial mindset of constantly having my money (started at $855, now at about $1500) in various stocks and options so I didn't have money "going to waste" in cash. However, I have quickly learned that it would be wise to have cash at my disposal. For example, I have had RGTI $10 puts on my watchlist since last week Monday, and if I had had cash at my disposal to purchase them, I would've made an absolute ton of money (relatively) this morning.
So, for you more seasoned traders, what % of your account do you keep as cash at any given time? I understand this may vary by the type of trading you do and your risk tolerance, but I'm just trying to get a general feel as I learn and grow as a trader.
Thank you all in advance for any input, I'm just a guy trying to learn and make better decisions with my account.
