When did people start to notice your stretched ears?

If you didn't really talk to others about your gauged ears, and people didn't know you were stretching your lobes, when did people start to notice/mention your stretched ears? What was their reaction?

This question can also apply to other holes, like septum or ear cartilage, etc...

I'm curious, because my bf's mom didn't notice my septum was pierced for months until she mentioned it, and I haven't really talked to her about my lobes. So I imagine it will take her awhile to notice my lobes. It will take a long time before my holes are big enough to be very noticeable. I'm at 8g.
