Kodi IP Address

I have Kodi installed from the discovery store and all works fine. I tend to use Xbox controller with Bluetooth wake enabled to turn the deck on and operate Kodi when it’s docked to my tv. I saw that there is a Kodi remote app and thought this would be a good backup, but I cannot get it to connect using the IP address and port. I then tried the web UI to connect and this is also not working. I can see my steamdeck connected to my router with the same IP address and port - which matches the details that Kodi is showing in the system info. I’m not familiar with Linux so not sure if this is some quirk of the OS or something else. Has anyone managed to connect to Kodi on their steamdeck via http?
