[Sonic 3 possible spoilers] So does the world already knows about Sonic and friends?

Team Sonic and Shadow is walking on public. I think it's pretty clear that the world already know that there are aliens on earth, right?

Does this mean that we can get ugly Sonic as a canon character of like... a movie version of Sonic they made in-universe?
