Advice! Hot tub to Sauna conversion
First time Reddit poster so please be gracious! I’ve followed this sub for a bit now and have read through trumpkin notes, saunalogia, saunatimes and posts here. We are looking to DIY a sauna on our existing hot tub pad since the electric is already in place and we have the space.
As my husband says, I’m “crunchy” so I’m looking for as natural and zero tox build I can have. I want to keep the traditional Finnish build in mind knowing we will have to compromise here and there. I believe our interior space can be 7 x 7 x 8.5h as the concrete pad is 93” square. We are leaning towards the harvia virta.
If I’m avoiding PT lumber, how/what do you anchor to the concrete to build the walls?
Wall layers - T&G (still shopping for what’s most cost effective) > furring strips > vapor barrier > formaldehyde free mineral wool and 2x4 posts > ? Do we need tyvek? Can we skip OSB? Then shou sugi ban siding. Any thoughts for improvement?
We are thinking tile over the concrete but we currently don’t have a drain there. What would be the best solution and how should we direct the drain out of the sauna?
Layout ok? Suggestions? I know an L is controversial but we do like sitting with our legs up and that might give more space.
Would love any and all feedback as we get started!
