House pending status right after it's allowed to be shown
EDIT: Please don’t reply if you haven’t read through the comments. I think it’s useful to leave this up for other people / search engines. You guys have some helpful insights and anecdotes but please man.
I visited a home today that I found on redfin. I believe I found it the day that it was listed and contacted my realtor to get us into a showing ASAP. She told us that it was open for showing, as in we wouldn't be able to see it, until Friday. We scheduled a tour for today (Saturday).
I was very interested in it and she made a call to the selling agent while we were there but they didn't pick up. Fast forward, I get home and check my email only to see that the status on the house has changed to "pending" on redfin. The status changed literally minutes after we left the property.
Is this normal? I know this market (San Diego) is very competitive, but I would think that the seller would want to at least get a few offers. Did they actually accept an offer within a single day? That seems insane to me. I didn't even get the opportunity to put in an offer.
I thought I was getting ahead of it by scheduling a viewing before the house was even available for showing.
