Why does fishing take so long?

Trying to catch a fish at Owanjila lake in the west of West Elizabeth. Sit there reeling for 10 minutes. The fish I have hooked is getting extremely close to the bank but not coming out, and every time it struggles it just pulls back out all the line I reeled because I can't stop it taking that much without breaking the line. I try to stop it, but have broken two lines fishing these types of fish previously so I know I need to be cautious about the struggling. It struggles so hard and pulls out so much line that it genuinely seems impossible to catch. Why is it taking so much to catch? I know it's a big fish but it shouldn't be seemingly impossible!
