Sim vs Esim

Converting from Telus later today hopefully! Do I need to take out my Telus Sim card? I know that I can't have a physical sim cause of the postal strike at the moment so if I use an esim from the time being do I need to remove a physical sim? Heading to the states next Saturday so this deal couldn't be passed up!
