Why is Ronald Reagan and his policies so hated?

I often people say that many modern problems in the US can be traced back to the Reagan administration. This confuses me, as Reagan left office over 30 years ago and won the presidency with 2 consecutive landslides, although admittedly I don't know much about his presidency outside of the Cold War and trickle-down economics. I am wondering if it is a fair statement to say that Reagan is the source of many problems in America?
