Unpopular Opinion Maybe (Lord John)

So this is likely going to be an unpopular opinion but as someone who started with the show, loved Lord John’s character, then read through the books (including the Lord John series) multiple times, I MUCH prefer book John now.

The two are so different to me, and I’ve kind of grown to really dislike how the show portrays John (I don’t think this is fully David Berry’s acting, I think it’s an intentional show decision).

The most recent episodes have further solidified this for me. Yes, this is absolutely some of David Berry’s best acting as John to date, but it’s still nowhere near book John. I find the show has softened his character a lot, removing the grit and reality that makes his character my favourite in the books.

I used to really wish we could have a Lord John series show spinoff, but now I just want them to leave the Lord John books alone because I love them. 😂
