Thoughts on road trip from Portland to Oregon Coast & up to Seattle area in December?

Would you say this road trip is advisable as far as road safety and scenery visibility due to winter weather towards end of December.

Main goal is to reach Seattle area but thought might as well see the Oregon coast. At the same time, need to figure out which stops or town in Oregon coast is good idea to stop and get a hotel.
