Exploring getting an MBA as a medical student. What are the benefits?

Currently a medical student at a top institution with a T10 MBA program. I’m really interested in entrepreneurship and starting or consulting for a large company at some point. Getting an MBA would require an additional year, incurring additional tuition costs, and would likely require me forgoing doing research during that year.

I was already planning on taking a year off before graduating to work on my nonprofit and potentially doing research for a residency program I’m interested in.

The application process is less extensive for medical students so I’m more concerned as to whether I should bother applying/financial cost than if I would get in.

Do you think it would be worthwhile for me to get an MBA? How much free time do MBA students typically have? What skills do you think an MBA would bring to someone who’s not primarily pursuing a career in business?
