King Cake Details

The day is too nice to post something sad or negative, so I have a fun question in anticipation of Mardi Gras season. Fairly recently, a baker told someone that a king cake isn’t a king cake if it doesn’t have a filling. A plain one is just a giant cinnamon roll. What is Reddit’s opinion? My opinion is a king cake can be filled or plain, preferably plain because the filling is often too goopy for my taste.

If you answer, please put what general region of LA you’re in, only if you’re comfortable. I’m in the toe of the boot, for example. I’m curious if different regions have different opinions. Enjoy your Saturday!

Thanks everyone for participating! I don’t want to take the time to reply to everyone because I’m going fishing, but it seems the consensus is cinnamon is, in itself, a filling. Enjoy your weekend, and leave the knife in the box, for goodness sake.
