What are some JRPGs you wish you liked?

There's plenty of JRPGs out there that either on paper sound right up my alley or are fantastic for at least a part of it, but some feature, mechanic, section, etc detracts from the experience for me and prevents me from enjoying it. Sometimes it's things I know are minor in the long run, but still prevent me from truly appreciating the game like I wish I could. Anyone have similar situations they've run into? Some examples for myself:

Ni No Kuni: I adore Ghibli, I love the music, hell even the story seems like a blast! But I just couldn't convince myself to continue with the awful battle system where bootleg Pokemon refuse to listen.

Chained Echoes: As someone who tries to 100% every game the reward chart system was a fantastic idea in my opinion. Combine that with a handful of QoL features and decent combat and I felt like this game was talking my language. But the growth loop being tied closer to collecting crystals and crafting armor\weapons vs experience from enemies never clicked for me and I found myself bored. 30 years of JRPGs have trained my brain to want the dopamine of seeing numbers going up when I kill slimes.

Romancing Saga 2: So much I adore about this game and I'll sing its praises to anyone who will listen, but enemy scaling is one of those personal pet peeves that immediately ruin a game for me every time. Is throwing myself at the same 3 enemies for 5 hours on loop to grind until I'm overpowered the correct way to play the game? Probably not. But don't make me actively weaker than the enemies for it.
