are second hand ipads worth it

I was thinking of getting an ipad soon before leaving for clg , mainly to make digital notes. ipad with all its accessories online costs quite a few much so i was thinking of getting a second hand/refurbished ones online through some reputable seller or website, since my main work would be related to college only in it, would it be a wise option or should i go for a brand new one?
