A few questions about the HD 660S2
Hey audiophile buddies!
TLDR: Any other options for super comfortable and lightweight headphones with good sound quality in this price bracket (or a bit higher)? Can the upper mids be easily EQ'd to bring it forward a bit? Would the Qudelix 5k be a good portable amp/dac option for these? Any other portable amp/dac recommendations? Thanks!
So I've been on a bit of a journey the last month. Finally getting back into audio because and have been looking at all different options (wireless, open back, iems, earbuds).
I bought the Maxwells because I initially wanted something wireless with good SQ, but the problem is they're so damn heavy if I tilt my head back or forward too far they start to slip off! I really wanted something I could relax with on my bed, so this is a no-go for me now. I've enjoyed them a lot otherwise (I'm a beginner audiophile so everything sounds good to me 😂😂😂).
So I'm now leaning towards the HD 660S2 because I had the 6XX in the past and they were super comfortable and light, so good when I want to lie back on my bed and not have a concern about whether the headphones will start slipping. I live in Australia so the 6XX aren't really cheap here - $550 Australian ($360 USD)
The 660S2 are $650 Australian ($430 USD), but black friday is coming up so I might be able to get them even cheaper.
I had a think about a lot of other headphones... Sundaras, MM-100, but they're all heavier and I'm doubting they'll be as comfortable.
The one question I have with the 660S2 is the upper mid-range. Is it easy enough to equalise this to bring it forward a bit?
Would the Qudelix 5k be a good option for driving these? I heard that has an inbuilt EQ.
If you have any other options for headphones or amp/dacs I'd really appreciate it. This world is so overwhelming for beginners. I just want something super comfortable with good all-round sound quality to give me a good impression of what music is supposed to sound like. i.e. nothing that deviates too much from "normal" in any area.
Thanks so much!
