Mother just transitioned to hospice and I’m devastated

My mom was diagnosed with advanced esophageal cancer last September that had metastasized to her liver. It’s a shitty cancer to get. As soon as she was diagnosed, my husband and I bought a bigger house and moved her in with us and our toddler. She’s a widow; my stepfather lost his long battle with prostate cancer in 2019. My mom and I are super close so I would never let her go through this alone.

Treatments have been brutal, landing her in the hospital a few times. Her body is in really bad shape, and we just learned the cancer is growing. She has decided to stop treatment and transition to hospice. She’s very much at peace with it. I feel like I’m drowning in a sea of grief.

How does anyone actually process a loss this big? Her absence will be felt in everything I do and see. How do you move on with that much pain? I know I have to, but right now it doesn’t seem possible. She is an incredible person and is leaving a wonderful legacy, and my world is going to be much colder and darker without her.
