Resource Guarding - how did you fix it?
My mini goldendoodle Chuck has been a great (albeit handful) of a puppy. He’s currently at about 30 pounds and 7 months old. I just bought him some type of “super bully chew”, and he instantly turned into a possessed wolf dog who growled and bit me when I tried to take the small piece away. He even growled when my husband petted his back. It really caught me off guard. He’s never done anything like that, and I can easily take all other treats and toys away, no problem.
I understand this is resource guarding because he is perceiving this so high value? We have puppy class tonight so will talk to our trainer, but curious how you fixed this? Exposure with me holding it? Were you able to fix this? Is there hope? I don’t just want to avoid that treat, I’d like to fix the behavior.
