The character assassination of Dean

I hate the fact that they ruined Dean’s character so they could introduce Jess. Dean starts off as a boy who shows some interest in books, he understands some movie references and has a sense of humor. Then we see his character do a complete 180 when Jess comes to town. He stops liking books and even gets a little frustrated when Rory (his book loving girlfriend that he knows loves books?) wants to go book shopping. Their arguments become increasingly more trivial over things that Dean would usually let go and he becomes extremely possessive over her. His temper gets wayyyy shorter and he progressively becomes more aggressive. I think this in particular is why people prefer Jess. They gave Dean this “nice guy” persona, and when he feels threatened the mask starts to come off and we see that ugly side where he can sometimes get a little aggressive. We see him shout at Rory to the point where she literally flinches. And then making her have an affair with Dean seasons later it’s like the directors were just trying to make us hate Dean. Season 1 Dean had his flaws as every teenager does but they were fixable. He was young and he made mistakes, the problem is that he progressively gets worse to make room for Jess and the other love interests.
