The villains in Poppy Playtime are based on chess pieces!
In the Deltarune fanbase, there is this theory that the bosses of each chapter are based on pieces of the chess game, starting with the piece with higher value and ending with the one with the lower (chapter 1 was the King, 2 was the Queen, and so on). I noticed some things that indicate this could also be the case for Poppy Playtime, but in reverse. The bosses are based on pieces, going from the lower value to the higher!
Starting with chapter 1, we have Huggy, who would represent the Pawn. This piece only moves straightfoward, and is the most common. Huggy is the very first thing we see when we enter the main lobby (like the Pawns are the pieces in front) and aside from stalking us for a bit, he only have a chase sequence, when he keeps moving towards us to eat us. The fact that he has multiple variants in the game (Kissy, the Mini Huggies, the nightmare version from ch.3) could be a reference to the pawn being so common (most numerous).
Then we have Mommy, who would represent the Knight. Unlike the Pawn, the Knight attacks in a "indirect" way, moving in a L pattern, never going straight towards other pieces. Mommy spends the whole chapter leaving other toys to deal with us instead of finishing us off herself, and even when she has the player in front of her, decides to play "hide and seek". Sure, she comes after us during a chase sequence, but it is for the last bit of the game...for the most part, she does this "indirect attack" strategy against us. Also when we dodge her and cause her to get stuck, we move in a L shape (a little foward then right) to avoid her...this could be nothing, but a thought it was worth noticing.
Next piece is the Bishop, and Catnap is a PERFECT match! Not only because of the religious stuff, but also because he is sort of a middle term between Huggy and Mommy when it comes to deal with us. The Bishop attacks in a direct line, but not straightfoward like the Pawn or the Rook. Catnap actually attacks the player in some moments in the game (unlike Mommy who leaves it for the end) but doesn't chases us the same way Huggy does.
The next piece is the Rook, which would be represented by th ch.4 antagonist. While we can't say anything about this monster for now, if the theory holds up, we can speculate: the Hook moves straightfoward just like the Pawn, but they also moves backwards and sideways, and have longer reach. This could mean the next antagonist will be the most dangerous so far, patroling areas of this new location constantly and making a B line towards us if they spot us. Matter of fact, I could see the next chapter beggining with us being knocked out by this thing the moment we step out of the elevator, then it drags Poppy away, and we have to spend the chapter trying to find her while avoiding this monster. Again, all speculation, but very possible...
Next is the Queen, and the Prototype is another perfect fit for me. A piece that moves all directions, however it pleases, and a monster made from parts of other toys, possibly able to use their abilities, and mimics everyone's voices. Also, like the Queen moves freely, the Prototype is always nearby, watching us and ready to collect the next toy corpse (also similar to the Queen in Deltarune, who is always present in the events of chapter 2, unlike the King from ch.1 who only appears for his boss fight).
Speaking of which, I believe the final piece, the King, is represented by our "friend", Poppy. I know we can't say for sure she is the main villain, but she could represent the King for sure: it is the most important piece in the game, but it only moves one square at a time and you don't typically use it much. Poppy is the title character, "super important for the game", but we haven't spent even 10 minutes with her ever since ch.1, and she doesn't do much to help us either. I am interesting to see, if the theory holds up, what the devs plan on doing with her...
Anyway...that was my crazy theory for the day. What you all think?
