Urban Fantasy with a twist (no/little romance)

Im looking for books in the urban fanstasy category but with slight deviation from the normal tropes. Those deviations can be in how the magic works, or a fresh take on a supernatural species or the setting can have a twist. Im not picky about how its drifferent, I just want something fresh. As for romance, I dont want it to dominate the story (no pnr), but a small subplot is fine. I dont need explicit scenes but if one or two are there I can live with it.
