Why do so many fantasy books call people female/male instead of man and woman?
I've noticed that a lot of fantasy books call people males and females instead of men and women for some reason. I was wondering if anyone knew why? Also, for some reason they also use those terms a lot more excessively than you would normally ever say man/woman.
Ex:
- "He is a strong male."
- "She's my female."
- "You have lost your mind, female."
- "'We need your wife,' he said, staring down the male."
Update: These are quotes from Age of Andinna series. I believe another example is JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Good point that they are romantic fantasy.
